Abstract: An overview of concepts for reduction of fuel consumption and climate impact of aircraft engines is given, together with enabling technologies. Selected concepts are presented in detail, e.g. geared turbofan, highly loaded compressors and engine-over-wing configurations. The potentials and limitations of the approaches is estimated.
