Wébinaire Katepalli R. Sreenivasan

Katepalli Sreenivasan a été le doyen de la "NYU Tandon School of Engineering", ancien président de "Brooklyn Polytechnic" et ancien directeur du Centre international de physique théorique de Trieste, en Italie. À NYU, il est Professeur d'Université avec des Chaires du Département de physique et du "Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences". Il est également titulaire de la Chaire d'innovation Eugene Kleiner de la NYU School of Engineering. Le professeur Sreenivasan a remporté plusieurs prix et récompenses pour l'impact de ses recherches, et est membre de la National Academy of Sciences et de la National Academy of Engineering, membre de l'American Academy of Arts and Sciences, et appartient à plusieurs autres académies étrangères Katepalli Sreenivasan was the Dean of the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, past President of the Brooklyn Polytechnic and the former director of the International Center for Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy. At NYU he is a University Professor with professorships in the Department of Physics and the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences; he is also the Eugene Kleiner Chair of Innovation in the NYU School of Engineering. Prof. Sreenivasan has won several prizes and awards for the impact of his research, and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and belongs to several other academies internationally.

Abstract: Turbulence is an important but incompletely understood phenomenon. The powerful notion of scaling proposed by Kolmogorov 80 years ago has had great impact but we now know its limitations. We will consider them and also what lies beyond.
