Yoshitsugu Naka is a professor at Meiji University in the Department of Mechanical Engineering since 2016. He taught at Tokyo Institute from 2013 till 2016. He was also a researcher at Kei University (Graduate School of Science and Technology) then from 2010 to 2013 worked at LMFL as a Postodoct before to join the « Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering » from 2012 till 2013
Simultaneous Measurement of Wall Pressure Fluctuations in a Turbulent Boundary Layer using 168ch MEMS Microphone Array

We have developed MEMS microphone arrayfor turbulent wall pressure fluctuation measurement. Figure 1 shows amicrophone array designed for the present measurement.56 microphones are implemented in two rows. The dimension of the microphone is 4×3×1 mm, and it has a pressure port with the diameter of 0.25 mm in the bottom surface. Three such microphone arrays havebeen synchronized to achieve 168ch wall pressure fluctuation measurement.Figure 2 indicates a space–time fluctuating pressure fieldwith 56 microphones aligned in the spanwise direction. The distribution clearly visualizes the instantaneous structure of the wall pressure fluctuations. The negative and positive structures tend to spread both in the spanwise and the streamwise directions. The activeintermittent small scale fluctuations can be observed. It is confirmed that the present method provides a novel flexible method for measuring wall pressure fluctuations with a good spatial and temporal resolutions. The time resolved fluctuating wall pressure fields will give new experimental insights of the relationship between the wall pressure fluctuation pattern and the wall turbulence structures.

Webinar Elizabeth GUAZELLI

Bodies of revolution in shear flows at low inertia

Elisabeth Guazzelli's research interests are in the field of particulate multiphase flows, such as fluidized beds, suspensions, sedimentation and sediment transport. She has spent her entire career as a CNRS researcher, leading an active and diversified research group at the IUSTI laboratory of the University of Aix-Marseille, and has now moved to the MSC (Matière et Systèmes Complexes) laboratory of the University Paris Cité. She is Rector of the International Center for Mechanical Sciences in Udine (Italy). She has been Associate Editor of the Journal of Fluid Mechanics since 2005 and is currently JFM Rapids Editor. Fellow of the American Physical Society and of the European Mechanics Society (EUROMECH), she is the recipient of the EUROMECH Fluid Mechanics Prize in 2016 and the APS Fluid Dynamics Prize in 2023. She was elected an international member of the Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti in 2020 and of the US National Academy of Engineering in 2021.
